Draw a Route on a Map

Map or draw a route using our google maps Pedometer to measure the distance of a run, walk or cycle. Find your location by clicking the arrow icon or by entering an address to begin. Alternatively zoom and drag the map using the map controls to pinpoint the start of your route. Draw your walking, running or cycling route by clicking on the map to set the starting point. Then click once for each of the points along the route you wish to create to calculate the distance. Change the view to map, satellite, hybrid or terrain using the controls above the Google route map. See the distance in miles or kilometers update and view the elevation profile as you plot the route.

To finish click 'Save Route' and enter a title and description in the relevant fields which will appear. Then click 'View Map' to see the map, add a link to the map on your website or simply share it with friends or colleagues.

How to Use the Route Drawing Tool

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Set Your Start Point
    • Click the arrow icon to find your current location via GPS
      OR enter an address in the search bar
      OR manually pan and zoom the map to your desired starting location
  2. Draw Your Route
    • Click the map to set your starting point
    • Click again at each turn or change of direction to extend the route
    • The total distance updates automatically in miles or kilometers
  3. Choose Map Views
    • Switch between Map, Satellite, Hybrid, and Terrain views for different perspectives on your route
  4. Track Elevation
    • As you draw, view a live elevation profile to assess gradients and terrain challenges
  5. Save & Share
    • Click "Save Route" to name your route and add a description
    • Then click "View Map" to see the final version
    • You can share the route via a link, or embed it on your website or blog

FAQs

Can I edit my route after saving it?
Currently, you need to redraw the route if major changes are needed. For minor adjustments, just move the pins before saving.
Is the route data stored permanently?
Saved routes are stored online for easy access via link, but always copy or download for backup if needed.
Can I export the route to GPS or fitness apps?
At present, export features are limited, but you can manually replicate the route using the displayed coordinates or embed the link in app notes.
